Research Interests

My research interests are in network intrusion detection and network management. I am currently working with state-based behavior detection schemes and am developing software to perform on-line detection and response to misbehavior. State-based analysis of network behavior allows the essential steps of attacks to be captured while allowing unspecified variants to be detected as well. Even more interesting than the detection of misbehavior is the action that is taken in response to the attack. I am investigating how such systems can be used to monitor and maintain network integrity and topology. I am also working to develop a framework to provide an authentication mechanism at the physical layer in networks. I am working towards an extensible model that describes possible manipulations of the signals and how their choice affects the strength of the authentication mechanism.
