20 December 2001 -- CSHCN congratulates all its recent graduates. Among the summer and fall graduates are:

Professor John Baras was their advisor. Alex and Lin were co-advised by Dr. Michael Hadjitheodosiou.

17 December 2001 -- Dr. Mark Fleischer has been appointed as an Assistant Research Scientist with ISR. Dr. Fleischer is working in CSHCN on the Collaborative Technology Alliance (CTA) project on mobile wireless ad hoc networks.

11 December 2001 -- The Center for Satellite and Hybrid Communication Networks (CSHCN) announces the recent promotion of Ms. Diane Hicks to Coordinator. Diane had been the Center's Administrative Assistant.

The Advanced Networks Colloquium Series presents "Performance Analysis of TCP Connections with RED Control and Exogenous Traffic", a talk by Dr. Vinod Sharma of the Indian Institute of Science. This talk will discuss the stability and performance of a system involving several TCP connections passing through a tandem of RED controlled queues each with an incoming exogenous traffic. -- 4:00 pm in Room 2460 AV Williams Building

Due to a scheduling conflict, it has become necessary to reschedule Dr. Sharma's lecture from Friday, November 30, 2001 to Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at 4:00 pm in Room 2460 AV Williams. Please note this date, time, and room change. Refreshments will be served.

30 November 2001 -- Dr. Anthony Ephremides, CSHCN co-founder and current CSHCN faculty, presents "Who is afraid of wireless links? A foray into energy-efficient wireless networking" at the University of Pittsburgh as part of the Department of Computer Science Distinguished Lecturer Series. This talk will focus on Ad-Hoc Wireless Networks.

9 November 2001 -- The Advanced Networks Colloquium Series presents "Analysis and Design of an Adaptive Virtual Queue Algorithm for Congestion Notification in the Internet", a talk by Dr. Srisankar Kunniyur of the University of Pennsylvania. This talk will discuss Active Queue Management (AQM) schemes. The goal is to design a low-delay service for elastic users in the Internet using AQM schemes. -- 11:00 am in Room 2460 AV Williams Building

5 November 2001 -- The Center for Satellite and Hybrid Communication Networks (CSHCN) welcomes Ms. Wynette Jones as its new Assistant Director. Wynette comes to CSHCN from the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, where she was the Director of Administrative Services.

26 October 2001 -- The Advanced Networks Colloquium Series presents "SUCSES: Survivability Using Controlled Security Services", a talk by Dr. Gene Tsudik of the University of California, Irvine. This talk will present an overview of the SUCSES research Project conducted jointly by UC Irvine and Stanford. The Project's main goal is to develop novel methods for providing cryptographic services.
