Official Announcement

Purpose

The Space Internetworking Workshop (SIW-5) will bring together mission planners, technologists, system designers, engineers, and scientists from the space community to enable transparent end-to-end network communications among space mission resources. Communications within and among the various space environments are included. This workshop in 2006 is the fifth in the series to continue comprehensive discussions of technical solutions for the design and engineering of mission communications. The goal is to foster dialog on related activities for deploying internetworking technologies for flight missions. All final submissions for the workshop will be in the form of presentations. All workshop activities will take place in an open forum and participants are advised that there is no explicit protection for proprietary information. We look forward to your participation in Hanover, Maryland, for the Fifth Space Internetworking Workshop.

Registration & Fees 

The early registration fee for SIW-5 will be $200, through August 21, 2006.
After August 21, 2006, the registration fee will be $275.
The final day for registration to include lunch/social is September 1, 2006.

On-line registrations is available through Acteva.

There are no special approvals required for participation by non US citizens.

Call for Abstracts

Notice of Intent to Submit

If you are planning to submit an abstract, please send an e-mail by May 15, 2006 to:

siw5-submissions@umd.edu

indicating the title of the presentation. This will allow the Technical Committee to get a head start in organizing the workshop.

Abstract Submission

Submitted abstracts should be no more than one page (8.5" x 11") in length and must relate directly to the subject and scope of the workshop. Abstracts should be submitted preferably as a Microsoft Word document, with a list of the authors and their affiliations (including address), telephone numbers, and email addresses.

Selection of all contributed Powerpoint presentations is based on the submitted abstracts. An individual may be an author on more than one submission. The Technical Committee will determine which presentation to accept, by considering quality and significance of the content as well as its appropriateness to the subject and scope of the workshop.

Those who have been selected or designated as alternate oral presentations will be invited to contribute their submission as presentations and/or additional related technical papers for placement on the SIW-5 web site after the workshop. Presentations may discuss or describe applications of commercial products/services, but must be substantially more than advertisements in nature.

International participants are welcome, as are participants from governmental, private, academic, and commercial/industrial organizations.

All submissions and presentations must adhere to relevant government regulations regarding disclosure and distribution. Submission will constitute approval to publish in any way or in any venue (including the Internet) deemed appropriate by the Technical Committee. Such publication will not imply endorsement by NASA, the US government, or any other entity.

Presentation Guidelines

Presentations should be submitted in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Submissions in the prescribed format will be published on the web after the workshop. Nominally, oral presentations will be limited to 15 minutes. Additional slides (and associated technical papers) may be submitted for inclusion in the version published on the workshop web site.

The Ramada is located approximately 6 miles from Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI).  

Travel & Housing

ROOM

Block Room Rate at Ramada Inn - BWI Airport Conference Center: $89/day plus 12% tax, September 1, 2006 is the cut off date for Blocked Room Rates. When making reservations, identify the workshop as Space Internetworking Workshop-5 or SIW-5, to get the group rate.

Government per diem for this Ramada (which is in Anne Arundel Co.): $104 Room and $64 M and IE. If you stay in Baltimore Co., the Government per diem is $141 Room and $59 M and IE. If you stay in Howard Co., the Government per diem is $103 Room and $49 M and IE.

TRANSPORTATION

Free shuttle service at the Ramada to /from BWI airport (approximately 10 minutes), Arundel Mills Shopping Center, and the Baltimore Light Rail. They have 2 ten passenger vans that leave every hour, 24 hours/day.

MEALS

Full buffet breakfast and lunch will be provided as part of the workshop. Restaurant in Ramada Hotel. Free shuttle service from the hotel to Arundel Mills Shopping Center (approximately 2 miles) which has several fine restaurants. Others restaurants near the hotel, but none within walking distance.
